Viisijalkainen assyrialainen lamassu kuvitti
Assyria Timesin juttua kesäkuussa 2006.

Assyria Times kirjoitti viisijalkaisesta lamassusta 5.6.2006.

"The bull demonstrates strength - in Assyrian times the wild bulls of Mesopotamia were huge beasts, up to 183cm at the shoulder, and were hunted by the kings.
The eagle, being the most powerful bird in the sky, symbolises the king's power as he looks over those he rules.
The crowned human head represents intelligence, with the face of the Lamassu carved to represent the king who ruled at the time the sculpture was created.
On top of the head is a crown, which features horns as a sign of divinity.
The sculpture has five legs, as the Lamassu could be viewed from the front and side: from the front it looked as though the Lamassu was standing firm, and from the side it looked as though the Lamassu was striding, giving the impression of motion."

Todin Mars, 300-luvun alku eKr, pronssia, korkeus 140 cm. Vatikaanin museot, Rooma.
(kuva: Vatikaanin museoiden verkkosivulta)

Vatikaanin museoiden verkkosivulla Todin Marsista kerrotaan seuraavaa:
"This is one of the very rare objects of ancient Italic statuary that has survived to our time. It shows a warrior dressed in armour and, originally, with a helmet, portrayed in the act of performing a libation before battle, pouring the liquid contained in a particular form of cup (patera) held by the extended right hand, while with the left he leans on an iron spear (the patera and remains of the spear, not visible in the photo, are in the showcase). The statue, which betrays the influence of Greek art starting from the middle of the 5th cent. BC, was found in Todi buried between slabs of Travertine, perhaps after having been hit by lightning. The dedicatory inscription, in the language of the ancient Umbrians but in the Etruscan alphabet, recalls that the statue was given as a gift (dunum dede) by a certain Ahal Trutitis."
